Special Registration Drive for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana Extended

The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has extended the special registration drive for the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) until August 15, 2025.

About the PMMVY Scheme:

• Objective: PMMVY is a Centrally-sponsored scheme under the ‘Samarthya’ sub-scheme of Mission Shakti. It provides financial assistance to Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM) to support nutritious diets, improve health-seeking behavior, and promote positive attitudes towards the girl child.
• Financial Benefits:
  • First Child: A cash incentive of ₹5,000 is provided in two installments.
  • Second Girl Child: A cash incentive of ₹6,000 is provided in one installment post-birth.
• Implementation: The scheme is implemented through a software called PMMVYSoft, which was launched in March 2023. This system ensures Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of funds to beneficiaries’ Aadhaar-seeded bank or post office accounts after digital Aadhaar and NPCI verification.
• Impact: As of July 31, 2025, more than 4.05 crore beneficiaries have received maternity benefits totaling ₹19,028 crore through this scheme. The scheme provides partial compensation for wage loss, enabling mothers to rest before and after delivery.
