  • Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella announced the statewide rollout of MahaCrimeOS AI, an AI-powered crime investigation platform, for the Maharashtra Police.

About MahaCrimeOS AI

  • An AI-driven investigation and case-management platform designed to enhance policing efficiency.
  • Developed jointly by Microsoft and the Government of Maharashtra under the state’s specialised AI policing initiative MARVEL (Maharashtra Research and Vigilance for Enhanced Law Enforcement).
  • Built using Microsoft Foundry and tailored to the needs of Indian law enforcement.

Pilot Implementation

  • In use since April 2025 in Nagpur Rural.
  • Successfully deployed across 23–25 police stations, including Cyber Crime Police Stations (CCPS).
  • Enabled faster processing of complaints and improved handling of cybercrime investigations.

Key Features

  • Multimodal intake: Accepts complaints in PDFs, audio, handwritten notes, images, and other formats.
  • Multilingual capability: Extracts critical information in any language.
  • AI-powered analysis:
    • Automates data analysis
    • Adapts investigation pathways
    • Profiles persons of interest with high speed and accuracy
  • Supports officers in following standard investigative procedures more efficiently.

Statewide Expansion

  • On 12 December 2025, the Maharashtra Government and Microsoft announced expansion:
    • From Nagpur’s 25 police stations
    • To all 1,100 police stations across Maharashtra
  • Deployment planned across all district police units in the state.

  • Enhances capacity to tackle complex and data-intensive crimes, especially cybercrime.
