Sukhatme National Award in Statistics

The Sukhatme National Award in Statistics, instituted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), will be presented during the Statistics Day function on 29 June 2026.

About the Award
The award has been instituted to recognise exceptional and outstanding contributions by individuals through high-quality research work aimed at strengthening and improving the system of official statistics in India.

History and Frequency
The Sukhatme National Award has been conferred since the year 2000 and is awarded in alternate years.

Eligibility Criteria
The award is given to eminent Indian statisticians aged 45 years and above for their lifetime contributions and achievements in the field of statistics.

Award Components
The award carries a citation, a shawl, and a memento.

Award Ceremony
The award is presented during the Statistics Day celebrations on 29 June.

Special Feature
On the occasion, the awardee is requested to take a session highlighting the significance and impact of their work in the field of statistics.
