Sustainability, Economic Growth and Security through Enhanced Linkages (SESEL)

India and Seychelles on February 9 adopted a Joint Vision for Sustainability, Economic Growth and Security through Enhanced Linkages (SESEL), reaffirming their commitment to deepen cooperation across development partnership, maritime security, climate action, digital transformation and people-to-people ties.

The Joint Vision was adopted during talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, who is on a State Visit to India at the invitation of the Prime Minister. The visit holds special significance as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of Seychelles’ independence and 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles.

As part of efforts to strengthen bilateral development cooperation, India announced a Special Economic Package of USD 175 million for Seychelles. This includes a Rupee-denominated Line of Credit of USD 125 million and Grant assistance of USD 50 million, aimed at supporting priority development projects in the island nation.

The two leaders also reviewed cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region, underscoring the importance of maritime security, regional stability and a rules-based order. In a key outcome, Seychelles agreed to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), reinforcing collaboration on climate resilience and disaster risk reduction.
