Why in News

The Government of India highlighted the progress of the TIDE 2.0 Scheme, under which 1,706 technology start-ups have been supported so far, with several scaling globally.

About TIDE 2.0

  • Launched: 2019
  • Nodal Ministry: Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY)
  • Objective:
    • Promote technology-based entrepreneurship
    • Strengthen the start-up incubation ecosystem through financial and technical support

Key Features

  • Support Structure:
    • Implemented through 51 selected incubators
    • Incubators located in Institutes of Higher Learning and premier R&D organisations
  • Total Outlay: ₹264.62 crore
  • Duration: 5 years
  • Target: Support around 2,000 tech start-ups

Support to Start-ups

  • Financial assistance and mentoring
  • Access to technical expertise, industry linkages, and ecosystem partnerships
  • Multiple revenue sustainability models, including equity exits
  • Over 150 incubated start-ups have been supported to expand globally

Centres of Excellence in Intellectual Property Rights (CoE-IP)

  • Established under TIDE 2.0
  • Focus areas:
    • Electronics and IT domain
  • Beneficiaries:
    • Start-ups, MSMEs, academia and individual inventors
  • Services provided:
    • IP facilitation and advisory services
    • Awareness creation and capacity-building programmes
    • Training related to patents, trademarks and IPR strategy
