Telangana Tops Jal Sanchai Jan Bhagidari Rankings

Telangana has secured the top position in the Jal Sanchai Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) 1.0 rankings, announced by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, emerging as the best-performing State in rainwater conservation.


State-Level Rankings

  • Telangana ranked first.
  • Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan secured the second and third positions, respectively.

Urban Body Recognition

  • Raipur Municipal Corporation won the first prize in the urban bodies category, credited with 33,082 water conservation works.

District-Level Award

  • Bidar district (Karnataka) emerged as the winner of the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari Award, under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain campaign.
  • The district will receive a ₹25 lakh cash prize from the Centre for its outstanding contribution to water conservation and community participation.
  • Bidar is among the top 80 districts selected under Category 3 of the campaign.

National Campaign Context

  • The JSJB initiative was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Surat, Gujarat.
  • The programme aims to address India’s acute water stress, where 18% of the world’s population depends on just 4% of global water resources.
  • Nearly 256 districts in India face “critical” or “over-exploited” groundwater levels.
