    • Letters
    • Documents
    • Gifts worth up to $100
  • Reason: U.S. Executive Order 14324 (effective 29 August 2025).

What the U.S. Order Says (E.O. 14324)

  • Ends duty-free imports under $800 de minimis threshold.
  • Mandates pre-paid duty collection + advanced customs data for imports.
  • Aims to curb under-invoicing, evasion & Chinese e-commerce imports.

  • Trade impact:
    • India’s small exporters, MSMEs & online sellers relying on postal/ courier exports to U.S. may face disruptions.
    • Higher compliance costs → decline in competitiveness.
  • Policy challenge: India may need to align postal/courier exports with new U.S. customs protocols.

Key Terms

  • De minimis threshold (U.S.): Imports up to $800 exempt from duties/taxes (till Aug 2025).
  • Advanced Customs Data (ACD): Mandatory sharing of product, value, shipper/receiver details before shipment arrives.
