Three Major Ports recognised as Green Hydrogen Hubs

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has formally recognised three major ports as Green Hydrogen Hubs under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM):

  • Deendayal Port Authority – Gujarat
  • V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority – Tamil Nadu
  • Paradip Port Authority – Odisha

About the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM):

  • Launched by the Government of India, the Mission aims to make India a global hub for the production, utilisation, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.
  • It seeks to develop large-scale hydrogen hubs as focal points for integrated production and consumption, promoting a sustainable and competitive hydrogen economy.
  • Policy Framework:
    • The revised scheme guidelines for setting up Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters (HVICs) and Green Hydrogen Hubs, issued on June 27, 2025, provide a structured framework to identify and support regions with high hydrogen potential.
  • Expected Impact:
    • The recognition of these three ports as hydrogen hubs is expected to:
      • Catalyse industrial participation in the green hydrogen ecosystem.
      • Attract domestic and global green investments.
      • Promote innovation in clean fuel technologies and hydrogen-based industries.
    • The initiative will help build infrastructure for storage, transport, and export of green hydrogen, enhancing India’s position in the global clean energy supply chain.
  • Broader Vision:
    • The move aligns with India’s long-term goals of achieving energy self-reliance (Atmanirbharta) and net-zero carbon emissions by 2070.
    • It reinforces the government’s commitment to accelerating the green energy transition and establishing India as a leader in hydrogen technology.

In Essence:
By designating Deendayal, V.O. Chidambaranar, and Paradip ports as Green Hydrogen Hubs, India has taken a major step toward creating a robust green hydrogen ecosystem, supporting its vision of a clean, sustainable, and self-reliant energy future.
