UAV-Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3

India has achieved a significant milestone in its indigenous defence capabilities with the successful test of a UAV-Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. The achievement was announced by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, underscoring the readiness of the Indian industry to produce critical defence technologies.

  • Advanced Variant: The ULPGM-V3 is an advanced variant, building upon the legacy of the ULPGM-V2. It is believed to incorporate cutting-edge features such as imaging infrared (IIR) seekers and dual-thrust propulsion systems, enhancing its precision and effectiveness.
  • Boost to Indigenous Capabilities: This successful trial significantly boosts India’s indigenous defence capabilities and reinforces its self-reliance in developing advanced military hardware.
  • Modern Warfare Relevance: The test highlights India’s increasing focus on unmanned precision-strike capabilities, which are crucial for modern warfare scenarios. These capabilities are valued for their:
    • Lightweight design
    • High accuracy
    • Compatibility with various aerial platforms (UAVs)
  • Test Location: The test was conducted at the National Open Area Range (NOAR) in Kurnool, a facility increasingly utilized by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for testing advanced technologies, including Directed Energy Weapons.
