UN Launches “Make A Safety Statement”

The United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety launched the UN–JCDecaux Global Campaign for Road Safety, titled “Make A Safety Statement”, aimed at promoting simple, everyday measures to improve road safety worldwide.

The campaign seeks to raise awareness about responsible road behaviour and encourages citizens to adopt basic yet life-saving practices such as wearing seat belts and helmets, adhering to speed limits, and avoiding mobile phone use while driving. Prominent celebrities are featured in the campaign to amplify its outreach and promote behavioural change at the grassroots level.

On the occasion, a new project titled “Sustainable Financing for Road Safety in India: A Collaborative Approach” was also launched with support from the UN Road Safety Fund. The initiative will be implemented with technical assistance from the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

The project aims to strengthen road safety systems across India by establishing a sustainable financing framework for road safety, enhancing institutional capacities, and reducing fatalities and serious injuries nationwide.
