President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu on 11the February inaugurated the two-day International Conference on Unani Day.

About Unani Day

• Every year the 11th of February marks Unani Day, celebrating the birth anniversary of eminent Unani physician, educator, and freedom fighter Hakim Ajmal Khan.
• The Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), a premier research council under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, hosted the distinguished International Conference on “Innovations in Unani Medicine for Integrative Health Solutions – A Way Forward.”
• Unani or the science of health and healing is a system of medicine that has blended with India’s tradition and has made it one of the leading countries practicing this form of medicine.

Unani System of medicine

• The Unani System of medicine originated in Greece around 2500 years ago, and its foundation was laid by the Hippocrates.
• It was the Arabs who introduced the Unani system to India which acquired strong roots within no time.
• The Delhi Sultans provided patronage Unani Scholars hired some of them as court physicians and state employees.
