Union Health Minister Inaugurates Amrit Pharmacy’s 10th Anniversary

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Shri J. P. Nadda inaugurated the 10th anniversary celebrations of AMRIT (Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment) Pharmacy at Bharat Mandapam, marking a decade of providing affordable essential medicines across India.

Key Highlights

• A Decade of Affordable Healthcare

  • Launched in 2015, AMRIT pharmacies offer life-saving and essential medicines at 50%–90% discounts.
  • Significantly reduces treatment costs, especially benefiting low-income patients and those with chronic conditions.

• Expansion Across AIIMS

  • All AIIMS institutions in India are equipped with AMRIT pharmacies.
  • Goal ahead: ensure every medical college and every district hospital has an AMRIT outlet.

• Implementing Agency

  • AMRIT pharmacies are operated by HLL Lifecare Limited, a Mini Ratna PSU under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
  • The PSU manages procurement, logistics, and affordable distribution of medicines and implants.

• Vision Ahead

  • Strengthen last-mile access to affordable healthcare.
  • Expand AMRIT’s reach so citizens across urban and rural India benefit from low-cost medicines and medical implants.
