Union Home Minister Launches Vibrant Villages Programme–II (VVP–II) in Assam

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on 20 February launched the Vibrant Villages Programme–II (VVP–II) in Nathanpur village of Assam, with a total outlay of ₹6,839 crore aimed at strengthening development and security in India’s border villages.

Key Features of VVP–II

  • Coverage: The programme will be implemented across 15 States and 2 Union Territories.
  • Approach: Saturation-based and convergence-driven development model.
  • Focus Areas:
    • Essential infrastructure development
    • Improved access to basic services
    • Sustainable livelihood opportunities
    • Strengthening border security and resilience

Officials said the scheme aligns with the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, aiming to create secure and prosperous border communities. By empowering local residents, the initiative also seeks to enhance vigilance against cross-border crimes and improve internal security.

Background

The government had earlier launched Vibrant Villages Programme–I (VVP–I) in February 2023 as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme covering 662 villages in 46 blocks along the northern border in Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and the Union Territory of Ladakh.
