Union Minister of Jal Shakti inaugurates C-FLOOD

The Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Shri C. R. Patil, recently inaugurated C-FLOOD, a cutting-edge Unified Inundation Forecasting System. This innovative platform is a collaborative effort between the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune, and the Central Water Commission (CWC).

Key Highlights of C-FLOOD:

  • Part of National Supercomputing Mission (NSM): C-FLOOD’s development under the NSM signifies a major leap in enhancing India’s flood management and disaster response capabilities.
  • Web-Based Platform: It’s an accessible online tool designed for ease of use.
  • Advance Inundation Forecasts: The system provides crucial two-day advance inundation forecasts.
  • Village-Level Detail: Forecasts are highly granular, offering predictions down to the village level.
  • Dual Output: It delivers information in the form of both flood inundation maps and water level predictions.
  • Unified System: C-FLOOD integrates flood modeling outputs from various national and regional agencies.
  • Comprehensive Decision-Support Tool: It serves as a vital resource for disaster management authorities, aiding in informed decision-making.
  • Advanced 2-D Hydrodynamic Modelling: The platform utilizes sophisticated modeling techniques to accurately simulate flood scenarios.
