The Uttar Pradesh government has announced the launch of a month-long road safety campaign titled ‘No Helmet, No Fuel’ from September 1, aimed at ensuring compliance with helmet rules.

Petrol Pumps to Deny Fuel

Under the campaign, petrol pumps across the state will refuse fuel to two-wheeler riders not wearing helmets. The initiative is being taken to promote road safety and reduce fatalities from accidents.

Drive to be Led by District Magistrates

The campaign will be coordinated by district magistrates in association with road safety committees. Officials from police, transport, revenue, and district administration departments will work jointly to enforce the rules.

Legal Framework

As per Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, wearing helmets is mandatory for both riders and pillion passengers. Section 194D of the Act lays down penalties for violations.

Supreme Court Advisory

The Supreme Court’s Road Safety Committee has also directed all states to prioritize enforcement of helmet usage, making this drive part of wider national efforts to improve road safety.
