US Announces ‘Board of Peace’ for Gaza

US President Donald Trump announced the formation of a proposed “board of peace” for Gaza as part of the second phase of a US-backed plan aimed at ending the war in the Palestinian territory.

Announcement and Context
The announcement came a day after US envoy Steve Witkoff stated that the second phase of a ceasefire agreement had commenced under Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza.

Structure of the Proposed Board
President Trump said he would serve as the chairman of the board, which he described as a key mechanism to guide Gaza through a post-conflict transition.

Transitional Governance in Gaza
Trump said the United States was backing a newly appointed Palestinian technocratic body, named the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, to govern the territory during a transitional period.

Role of the Board
According to Trump, the Gaza administration would function with the support of a high representative appointed by the board, ensuring coordination and oversight during the transition.

Stated Objective
The US President said the proposed leadership aims to steer Gaza towards a peaceful future, as envisaged under the broader ceasefire and reconstruction framework.
