Donald Trump, President of the United States, has announced a $300 billion partnership with Reliance Industries Limited to establish “America First Refining,” a major new oil refinery project in the United States.
The refinery will be located at the Port of Brownsville and is being described as the first major new oil refinery built in the U.S. in nearly 50 years. According to the announcement, the project represents one of the largest investments in U.S. industrial history and is expected to generate thousands of jobs while aiming to become the cleanest refinery in the world through advanced technologies and environmental standards.
The initiative aligns with President Trump’s “America First” energy agenda, which focuses on lowering taxes, easing regulatory approvals, and strengthening domestic energy production to achieve what the administration calls “energy dominance.”
The announcement comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in West Asia, where ongoing conflict and Iranian strikes on regional energy infrastructure and military bases have disrupted global oil supply chains. The situation has particularly affected shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil transportation.
