US President Donald Trump Becomes First Recipient of FIFA’s New Peace Prize

US President Donald Trump on Thursday became the first-ever recipient of FIFA’s newly instituted “FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World,” an honour presented during the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup held in Washington, DC.

The global football governing body had announced the creation of the award in November to recognise individuals who have undertaken “exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace” and contributed to uniting people across borders.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who presented the award, has previously praised Trump’s diplomatic efforts, even suggesting that the US President should have been considered for the Nobel Peace Prize for his attempts to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza.

Trump, who has long expressed interest in receiving the Nobel honour, was widely expected to win FIFA’s inaugural peace award.

FIFA said the prize will be awarded annually to individuals whose “unwavering commitment and special actions” advance peace and bring communities together worldwide.
