Varanasi’s Ghats Glow in Divine Splendour During Dev Deepawali

On the evening of 5 November 2025, the ghats of Varanasi were transformed into a celestial panorama as lakhs of diyas (earthen lamps) lit up the banks of the sacred River Ganga. The grand celebration of Dev Deepawali, often described as the “Diwali of the Gods,” turned the ancient city into a shimmering sea of light, devotion, and spirituality.

Spiritual Significance

  • Dev Deepawali is celebrated fifteen days after Diwali and marks the victory of Lord Shiva over the demon Tripurasura.
  • On this sacred night, devotees light countless earthen lamps across all 88 ghats of Kashi, symbolising divine triumph and enlightenment.

  • From Rajghat to Assi Ghat, every stretch along the riverbank glowed with rows of flickering diyas, their light reflecting in the tranquil waters of the Ganga.
