Vice-President Releases Coffee Table Book on India’s Legislative Journey

Vice-President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan attended the ‘Constitution Day’ celebration on 26 November at the Delhi Legislative Assembly as the Chief Guest, where he released a Coffee Table Book marking 100 years of Shri Vithalbhai Patel’s election as the first Indian Speaker.

Honouring India’s Legislative Heritage

• The Vice-President highlighted the historical significance of the Delhi Legislative Assembly building, which earlier housed the Imperial Legislative Council and the first Central Legislative Assembly.
• He noted that the building had witnessed seminal debates on rights, citizenship and representative governance during India’s pre-independence legislative evolution.

Coffee Table Book: A Tribute to 100 Years of Legislative Journey

• The book, released to mark the centenary of Shri Vithalbhai Patel’s pathbreaking election, chronicles India’s legislative milestones.
• It contains:
  • Rare archival photographs,
  • Key excerpts from historic speeches,
  • Visuals from the 2025 All India Speakers’ Conference,
  • Archival material on Shri Vithalbhai Patel and notable nationalist leaders.

Commemorating a Historic Tenure

• The Vice-President recalled the successful conduct of the All India Speakers’ Conference 2025, which celebrated 100 years of Shri Vithalbhai Patel’s tenure as the first Indian Speaker of a legislative body.

Connecting Generations to Legislative History

• He commended the Delhi Legislative Assembly for documenting this important journey, stating that such initiatives would help future generations stay rooted in India’s legislative legacy.
