VyAS Bharat and VyAS Sutra

Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri George Kurian, officially launched the household enumeration phase of the National Marine Fisheries Census (MFC) 2025 on 31 October 2025. The launch took place at the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI).

Digital Tools for Efficient Data Collection

  • VyAS Bharat and VyAS Sutra, developed by CMFRI, will be used for:
    • Real-time data collection
    • Geo-referencing
    • Instant verification
    • VyAS–NAV: For validation of fishing villages and harbours
    • VyAS–BHARAT: For household and infrastructure enumeration and
    • VyAS–SUTRA: For real-time supervision and monitoring of households and enumerators)
  • These tools ensure seamless data flow from the field to central servers, enhancing accuracy, transparency, and efficiency, while reducing processing time.

Census Details

  • The 45-day nationwide enumeration will be conducted from 3 November to 18 December 2025.
  • Thousands of trained field staff will cover:
    • Over 1.2 million fisher households
    • Across 4,000 marine fishing villages
    • In 9 coastal states and 4 union territories

Coordination and Support

  • The Census is coordinated by the Department of Fisheries (DoF) under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).
  • CMFRI acts as the nodal agency, with the Fishery Survey of India (FSI) as the operational partner.
