WEF to Set Up New Centre for Fourth Industrial Revolution in Andhra Pradesh

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has decided to establish five new Centres for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR), including one in Andhra Pradesh, further strengthening India’s role in shaping global technology governance.

India’s Growing Presence in C4IR Network

With the addition of the Andhra Pradesh centre, India will host three C4IRs:

  • Mumbai
  • Telangana
  • Andhra Pradesh

This underscores India’s increasing engagement with global efforts to guide the responsible use of emerging technologies.

About the Fourth Industrial Revolution Network

Launched by the WEF in 2017, the Fourth Industrial Revolution Network serves as a multi-stakeholder platform that brings together governments, industry, academia, and civil society.

Its objective is to ensure that emerging and exponential technologies deliver broad societal benefits while minimising associated risks.

The network connects independent national and thematic centres across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas.

Other New Centres

Apart from Andhra Pradesh, the new Centres for the Fourth Industrial Revolution will be established in:

  • France
  • United Kingdom
  • United Arab Emirates (UAE)

Focus Areas

The new centres will concentrate on key future-facing domains, including:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation
  • Energy transition
  • Cyber resilience
  • Frontier and emerging technologies

Role and Significance

Each centre will work closely with governments and industry to:

  • Develop practical policy frameworks,
  • Run pilot projects,
  • Address regional priorities, and
