What is Web 5.0?

Jack Dorsey-former Twitter CEO recently announced his vision for a new decentralized web platform that is being called Web 5.0.

Salient features of Web 5.0

  • Web 5.0 is a decentralized web platform that allows developers to develop decentralized web apps (DWAs) using decentralized identifiers (DIDs), verifiable credentials (VCs), and decentralized web nodes (DWNs), reclaiming ownership and control of identity and data for users.
  • It will be built on Bitcoin.
  • In simple words, Web 5.0 is Web 2.0 plus Web 3.0 that will allow users to ‘own their identity’ on the Internet and ‘control their data’.
  • Both Web 3.0 and Web 5.0 envision an Internet without threat of censorship – from governments or big tech, and without fear of significant outages.
  • Currently, web users still complain about not having total control over their data and identity, its usage, and the security aspect that is still a much concern in web 3.0.
  • Web 5.0 is promising to give complete control of data and identity to users because this informations will be saved with the users.
