Why in News?

The Jan Samarth Portal has completed four years of operation, marking a significant milestone in promoting digital financial inclusion and seamless credit delivery across India.

About Jan Samarth Portal

  • The Jan Samarth Portal was launched by the Government of India on 6 June 2022 as a unified digital platform for credit-linked government schemes.
  • It is the first-of-its-kind platform that directly connects beneficiaries with lending institutions through a single digital interface.
  • The portal is an initiative of the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance.

Objectives

  • To expand the reach of government-sponsored credit-linked schemes.
  • To simplify and streamline the credit delivery process.
  • To enhance financial inclusion through technology-driven access to institutional credit.

Key Features

  • Provides a unified digital gateway for applications under 16 Credit-Linked Central Government Schemes.
  • Offers a seamless and user-friendly end-to-end digital loan application process.
  • Available in eight languages, improving accessibility for rural and underprivileged populations.
  • Covers diverse sectors including:

    • Entrepreneurship
    • Housing
    • Education
    • Renewable Energy
    • Livelihood Promotion

Institutional Support

  • The portal has onboarded 269 Member Lending Institutions (MLIs), enabling beneficiaries to choose from a wide range of lenders.
  • It also provides an assisted mode for loan applications through banks’ business correspondents and other authorized partners, helping individuals with limited digital literacy.
