5th BIMSTEC National Security Advisers’ (NSA) Meeting

India hosted the 5th BIMSTEC National Security Advisers’ (NSA) Meeting in New Delhi on 16 July 2026.

  • The meeting brought together National Security Advisers and senior intelligence officials from all seven BIMSTEC member countries.
  • Addressing the meeting, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval emphasized the need for stronger regional cooperation to tackle emerging security challenges.
  • He noted that the present global environment, marked by conflicts, geopolitical uncertainties and rapid technological changes, requires urgent collective action.
  • He called upon BIMSTEC members to work together to ensure regional peace, stability and prosperity.

About BIMSTEC

  • BIMSTEC stands for the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation.
  • It was established through the Bangkok Declaration on 6 June 1997.
  • The organisation was originally formed as BIST-EC (Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand Economic Cooperation).
  • Following the inclusion of Myanmar, it became BIMST-EC, and after Bhutan and Nepal joined in 2004, it was renamed BIMSTEC.
