Lok Sabha on July 27 passed the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023 amid the din.

Key points

• The Jan Vishwas Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023 was moved by commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal.

• Through The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2023, a total of 183 provisions are being proposed to be decriminalized in 42 Central Acts administered by 19 Ministries/Departments.

• The Bill intended to amend certain enactments for decriminalizing and rationalizing offenses to further enhance trust-based governance for ease of living and doing business.

• It also has provisions to remove imprisonment as a punishment for many offenses.

• The Bill seeks to create an Environmental Protection Fund for education, awareness, and research on environmental protection.
