Aditya to represent Asia in Gustave Trouvé Awards

Aditya-India’s first solar-powered ferry, is among 12 such ferries that have been shortlisted for the Gustave Trouvé Award. It is the sole entrant from Asia. Aditya became an icon on the Vaikom-Thavanakadavu route in Kerala.

1. Aditya is operated by the Kerala State Water Transport Department (KSWTD) and was built by Navalt Solar and Electric Boats, Kochi.

2. Gussies Electric Boat Awards were instituted in memory of French electrical engineer Gustave Trouvé. He was a pioneer in electric cars and boats.

3. Trouvé was a prolific inventor with over 75 patents. In 1881, he developed a 5-m-long prototype electric boat.

4. The award is given in three categories: (i). electric boats up to 8m in length, (ii) electric boats more than 8 m long and (iii) electric ferry boats (passenger boats), the category in which Aditya is in the fray.
