Why in News?

The Andhra Pradesh Community Managed Natural Farming (APCNF) programme has won the Food Planet Prize 2026, receiving USD 1.5 million for promoting climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture.

About APCNF

  • Launched in 2016 by Rythu Sadhikara Samstha under the Agriculture Department of Andhra Pradesh.
  • Encourages farmers to shift from chemical-intensive farming to natural farming.
  • Promotes the use of locally available natural inputs, improves soil health, reduces cultivation costs, and enhances climate resilience.
  • Considered one of the world’s largest community-led agroecology movements.

About Food Planet Prize

  • Awarded by the Curt Bergfors Foundation.
  • Recognizes initiatives that transform global food systems in a sustainable manner.
  • The winner receives USD 1.5 million, while finalists receive USD 150,000 each.
