APEDA Facilitates First Export of GI-Tagged Tezpur Litchi from Assam to Dubai

Why in News?

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the first export consignment of GI-tagged Tezpur Litchi from Assam to Dubai on 7 June 2026. The consignment, weighing one metric tonne, marks a significant step in promoting agricultural exports from India’s North-Eastern Region and enhancing the global recognition of Assam’s Geographical Indication (GI) products.

  • First-ever export of GI-tagged Tezpur Litchi to Dubai.

  • Renowned for its exceptional sweetness, bright-red appearance, distinctive aroma and superior eating quality.
  • The region produces several popular varieties, including: Bombaya, Bilati, Elaichi, Piyaji and Sahi.
