Banganapalle mangoes

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the first commercial sea shipment of premium Banganapalle mangoes from India to Singapore.

The mangoes were sourced from Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)-certified orchards in Andhra Pradesh and processed at an APEDA-recognised packhouse in Karnataka.

The consignment complied with Singapore’s quality and phytosanitary standards, enabling commercial sea export.

Banganapalle is one of India’s most popular mango varieties and is known for its golden-yellow colour, fibreless pulp, rich sweetness, pleasant aroma, and long shelf life.

It is also popularly known as Benishan or Safeda.

The variety has strong demand in international markets and holds significant potential for expanding India’s mango exports.

Banganapalle mango received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag in May 2017.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh is the registered proprietor of the GI tag.
