BIAL to promote cultivation of Devanahalli pomelo or chakota

As part of the 50th anniversary of World Earth Day, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has initiated a conservation of Devanahalli pomelo or chakota by cultivating it within it’s campus under ”Namma Ooru” CSR Programme.

BIAL aims to promote cultivation of the fruit and form a viable market in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and other institutions.

About Devanahalli pomelo

It is a citrus variety almost on the brink of extinction.

Geographical Indication (GI) tagged Chakota has a unique, sweet taste, unlike other varieties.

The fruit is localised to around 13 villages in Devanahalli taluk, eight villages of Sidlaghatta taluk and seven villages of Doddaballapura taluk.
