Cabinet approves continuation of the PM-KISAN Scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31

The Union Cabinet, on 31 July, approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme for the period 2026–27 to 2030–31.

  • A financial outlay of ₹3.15 lakh crore has been approved for the Scheme during this five-year period.
  • The Scheme aims to provide timely and transparent income support to eligible farmer families through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
  • The income support enables farmers to increase agricultural investment and strengthen their livelihoods.

About PM-KISAN Scheme

  • PM-KISAN was launched in February 2019.
  • Under the Scheme, eligible landholding farmer families receive ₹6,000 per year as financial assistance.
  • The amount is transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each every year.
  • The Scheme uses Aadhaar authentication, digital verification, and a robust Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism to ensure transparency, efficiency and accountability.

Benefits of the Scheme

  • The financial assistance helps farmers make timely investments in Seeds, Fertilisers, Irrigation, agricultural machinery, and other agricultural inputs.
  • The Scheme supports improved agricultural productivity and income security by ensuring regular financial assistance.

Who is Not Eligible?

The following categories are not eligible to receive benefits under PM-KISAN:

  • Income Tax payees
  • Institutional landholders
  • Families of holders of constitutional posts
  • Serving or retired Government employees (subject to prescribed exceptions)
  • Other categories specified under the Scheme guidelines.
