Why: Campaign commemorates Champaran Satyagraha to spread the message of Swachhata

  • The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation on April 3, 2018 launched ‘Satyagraha Se Swachhagraha’ campaign in New Delhi.
  • It is a nationwide campaign and will culminate on April 10, 2018 marking the 100th year of Champaran Satyagraha.
  • The week will culminate with a mega event where the Prime Minister will address twenty thousand Swachhagrahis in Champaran district on 10th of this month.
  • Top ten Swachhagrahis will be awarded for their contribution towards the cause.
  • More than ten thousand Swachhagrahis from different parts of the country would be working with another ten thousand Swachhagrahis from Bihar to trigger behaviour change in 38 districts of the state.
  • The campaign commemorates Champaran Satyagraha to spread the message of Swachhata across the country.
  • The main objective of the campaign is to sustain the standards of Swachhta and change the behaviour of the people towards it.
  • As per the government, Swachh Bharat is not only a people’s movement, it is also a call to action.
