Delhi Government launches Road RADAR to monitor air pollution

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh launched Road RADAR (Real-time Air Pollution Detection Across Roads) on May 8, 2026.

The new initiative is designed to strengthen on-ground monitoring and ensure the rapid redressal of dispersed air pollution sources across the national capital.

Daily On-Ground Surveillance

Under the Road RADAR initiative, dedicated ground-level field surveyors will systematically monitor Delhi’s vast road network to identify pollution hotspots in real time.

  • Targeted Deployment: One dedicated surveyor has been deployed in each of Delhi’s districts.
  • Supervised Operations: The surveyors will operate under supervision every working day.
  • Daily Workload: Each surveyor is assigned to cover a minimum of 20 kilometres of roadways daily to maintain continuous tracking.

Comprehensive Jurisdiction and Coverage

The program has been structured to cover all major administrative and civic jurisdictions in the national capital:

  • Scope of Coverage: 13 surveyors will collectively monitor approximately 18,000 kilometres of Delhi’s roads.
  • Civic Jurisdictions Covered: The network spans roads managed by the:
    • Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)
    • New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC)
    • Public Works Department (PWD)
    • Delhi Cantonment Board

Monthly Cycle: The rotation ensures that the entire road network of Delhi is comprehensively covered and assessed every single month.
