Why in News?
INS Trishul arrived at Toulon, France, on 22 September 2026 to participate in the 24th edition of Exercise VARUNA, the bilateral maritime exercise between the Indian Navy and French Navy. The exercise includes professional engagements both in harbour and at sea, including cross-deck visits, operational interactions and sporting activities. These engagements are aimed at sharing operational experiences and best practices, enhancing interoperability and strengthening mutual understanding between the two navies.
About Exercise VARUNA
VARUNA is a bilateral maritime exercise between India and France that provides a platform for both navies to undertake joint training and improve operational coordination. The exercise covers various professional and maritime activities designed to enhance interoperability and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices.
The participation of INS Trishul at Toulon reflects the enduring maritime partnership between India and France and the expanding scope of defence and maritime cooperation between the two countries.
