First meeting of the High-Powered ‘Education to Employment and Enterprise’ Standing Committee

NITI Aayog convened the first meeting of the High-Powered ‘Education to Employment and Enterprise’ Standing Committee on 22 May 2026 under the chairpersonship of Nidhi Chibber. The meeting focused on issues related to labour force participation, youth employment, education–skill alignment, workforce preparedness, and employment generation.

The discussions also examined the transition of labour from agriculture to non-farm sectors, the growing role of frontier technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the need to strengthen industry-oriented skilling pathways to improve employability.

The formation of the committee was proposed under Paragraph 51 of the Union Budget 2026–27. The committee aims to support India’s goal of achieving a 10% share in the global services market by 2047.

The Standing Committee will identify priority sectors for growth, employment, and exports, assess the impact of emerging technologies on jobs and skills, and recommend policy measures to strengthen the education-to-employment ecosystem in India.
