Why in News?
US-based Mayo Clinic has announced the co-development of a cancer treatment targeting GIPC1, in collaboration with Bengaluru-based AI startup Sravathi AI Technology, under an intellectual-property sharing arrangement. The research has been published in Cell Reports.

Key Points:

• The treatment targets GIPC1 (GAIP-interacting protein C-terminus), a scaffolding protein involved in regulating cell-surface receptor expression and trafficking.
• GIPC1 does not itself cause cancer and is normally present in the human body.
• However, abnormal expression or signalling involving GIPC1 can provide pathways that cancer cells may exploit for excessive growth and invasion.
• GIPC1 has been associated with several cancers, including pancreatic cancer.
• The research explores GIPC1 as a potential therapeutic target, offering a possible avenue for more targeted cancer treatment.
