Why in News?

Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment and MSME, Shobha Karandlaje, led the Indian delegation to the 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, and participated in the Coordination Group Meeting of the Global Coalition for Social Justice on 11 June 2026.

Key Highlights

  • The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva.
  • During the meeting, India reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the International Labour Organization, governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations, and other stakeholders to advance social justice objectives.
  • Smt. Karandlaje held discussions with the Director-General of the ILO and Labour Ministers from Bangladesh, Moldova, Brazil, Switzerland, and other international partners.
  • India emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation in promoting inclusive growth, decent work, and social protection.

About the Global Coalition for Social Justice (GCSJ)

  • The Global Coalition for Social Justice was established by the International Labour Organization in 2023.
  • It is a multi-stakeholder platform aimed at strengthening multilateral cooperation and translating political commitments into concrete actions.
  • The Coalition brings together governments, employers, workers, international organizations, financial institutions, academia, civil society, and other partners.
  • Its objective is to enhance coherence, coordination, and effectiveness in advancing social justice and decent work worldwide.
