Inclusive Development Index 2018-India at 62nd place

• World Economic Forum (WEF) released it’s annual ‘Inclusive Development Index 2018 (IDI) in Davos on 22 January, 2018.
• This index has categorised world’s 103 countries in two broad categories: 29 advanced economies and 74 emerging economies.
• India was ranked 62nd in 74 emerging economies. India is ranked lower than China (26th) and Pakistan (47th).
• In 2017 index India was ranked at 60th place.
• Lithuania has topped the emerging nations index, followed by Hungary, Azerbaijan, Latvia and Poland.
• Among 29 advanced countries Norway topped the list. Norway is followed by Ireland, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Denmark in the top five ranking.

Basis of ranking: Ranking is based on three individual pillars; growth and development; inclusion; and inter-generational equity.

• The index has also further classified the world economies in sub-categories in terms of the five-year trend of their overall Inclusive Development Growth score — receding, slowly receding, stable, slowly advancing and advancing.
• Despite its poor score, India has been placed among top ten advanced emerging economies.
