India conducts successful flight-trial of Advanced Agni missile

India successfully conducted a flight-trial of an Advanced Agni missile equipped with a Multiple Independently Targeted Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) system on May 8, 2026. The launch was executed from the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.

Multiple Targets, Single Missile

The flight-trial successfully demonstrated India’s capability to strike multiple strategic targets using a single launch vehicle.

  • The Operation: The missile deployed multiple payloads aimed at separate, spatially distributed targets across a vast geographical area in the Indian Ocean Region.
  • Tracking & Telemetry: A network of multiple ground and ship-based stations monitored the entire flight path. These systems tracked the missile’s trajectory seamlessly from initial lift-off to the final impact of all individual payloads.
  • Outcome: Flight data officially confirmed that all mission objectives were successfully met during the trial.

Collaborative DevelopmentThe advanced strategic system was developed indigenously by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratories, with extensive manufacturing and development support from domestic industries across the country.
