India-EU conclude negotiations to join Horizon Europe programme

Why in News?

India and the European Union (EU) have successfully concluded negotiations for India’s association with Horizon Europe, the EU’s flagship research and innovation programme.

About Horizon Europe

• Horizon Europe is the European Union’s flagship programme for research and innovation.
• It provides funding for collaborative research and innovation projects involving researchers, institutions and industries.
• Its Pillar II focuses on collaborative research to address major global challenges and strengthen industrial competitiveness.

Key Features of India’s Association

• Research collaboration: Indian researchers, institutions and industries will be able to participate in funding calls through collaborative research projects.
• Access to resources: Indian participants will gain access to European research consortia and advanced research infrastructure.
• Talent mobility: It will facilitate the movement and exchange of researchers and scientific talent.
• Technology development: It will promote the co-development of critical technologies, standards and scalable solutions.
• Institutional cooperation: It builds on existing R&D projects and cooperation under the India–EU Agreement on Science and Technology Cooperation and the India–EU Trade and Technology Council.
