India joins Health AI Global Regulatory Network (GRN)

India has joined the Health AI Global Regulatory Network (GRN), a Geneva-based independent nonprofit, to strengthen oversight of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. With this, India will collaborate with other nations to share safety protocols and monitor AI performance in clinical settings.

Collaboration through ICMR and IndiaAI

The Indian Council of Medical Research – National Institute for Research in Digital Health and Data Science (ICMR-NIRDHDS) and IndiaAI will represent the country in the network. They will work alongside members such as the UK and Singapore to promote responsible use of AI in healthcare delivery.

Role and Objectives of GRN

The HealthAI Global Regulatory Network provides an international platform for health regulators to:

  • Strengthen oversight of AI in healthcare.
  • Build trust and improve safety of AI applications.
  • Accelerate responsible innovation through shared learning, joint standards, and early warnings of emerging risks.
  • Facilitate access to a global directory of registered AI health tools for transparency and collaboration.

IndiaAI’s Role in AI Ecosystem

IndiaAI, under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) and operated via the Digital India Corporation, is the government’s central initiative to build a comprehensive and inclusive AI ecosystem. It aims to position India as a global leader in AI innovation and development.
