Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS)

The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS) will undertake a Long Range Training Deployment to Southeast Asia as part of the training curriculum of the 110th Integrated Officers’ Training Course (IOTC).

Ships Participating in the Deployment
The deployment will comprise INS Tir, INS Shardul and INS Sujata of the Indian Navy, along with Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sarathi. The squadron will sail to Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.

Objectives of the Mission
The initiative aims to provide comprehensive operational, professional and cross-cultural exposure to officer trainees. It also seeks to strengthen India’s maritime engagement with Southeast Asian countries in line with the Act East Policy.

Professional and Cooperative Engagements
During port calls, the ships will participate in a range of professional interactions and training exchanges with host navies and maritime agencies. Activities will include cross-deck visits, interactions with subject matter experts, and joint maritime partnership exercises, enhancing interoperability and mutual understanding.

Strategic and Diplomatic Significance
The deployment reflects India’s commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indian Ocean Region (IOR). It underscores India’s growing focus on maritime diplomacy, regional cooperation and capacity building, while preparing future naval officers for complex operational environments.
