India’s First Accreditation Scheme for Mobile Food Testing Laboratories

Why in News?

The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) has launched India’s first-of-its-kind Accreditation Scheme for Mobile Food Testing Laboratories under the Integrated Assessment Programme at the ‘Gunvatta Samanvaya – A Multilateral MoU Exchange Ceremony’.

Key Points

• Launched by: National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), a constituent board of the Quality Council of India (QCI).
• New Scheme: Accreditation Scheme for Mobile Food Testing Laboratories.
• Objective: To make reliable, quality-assured and internationally benchmarked food testing services accessible closer to communities.
• Integrated Assessment Programme: The scheme has been developed under this programme to provide a structured framework for accreditation of mobile food testing laboratories.
• Key Benefits:
  • Strengthen food safety surveillance.
  • Improve access to quality food testing facilities, particularly beyond conventional laboratories.
  • Enable faster regulatory interventions.
  • Enhance consumer confidence in food safety and quality.
  • Promote internationally benchmarked testing practices.
• Multilateral MoU Exchange: The event also witnessed the exchange of a Multilateral MoU among participating organisations.
• Significance of MoU: It seeks to promote:
  • Greater regulatory convergence.
  • Coordinated assessments among participating organisations.
  • A more integrated and efficient quality infrastructure.
