INS Sudarshini-Maiden visit of an Indian Naval Ship to the Canary Islands archipelago

The Indian Navy’s sail training ship INS Sudarshini arrived at Las Palmas on April 23, 2026, as part of its transoceanic deployment under Lokayan 26.

This marks the maiden visit of an Indian naval ship to the Canary Islands.

The visit highlights growing maritime cooperation between the Indian Navy and the Spanish Navy.

The ship had earlier departed from Kochi in January 2026 and made port calls in several countries, promoting the message of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

It will next undertake a trans-Atlantic voyage to participate in Sail 250 events in the United States as part of its 250th Independence Day celebrations.

The Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago and autonomous community in the Atlantic Ocean, located 100 km off the coast of Morocco.
