‘INS Taragiri’ commissioned in Visakhapatnam

The Indian Navy on 3rd April commissioned its latest stealth frigate, INS Taragiri in Visakhapatnam, marking a significant boost to the country’s maritime capabilities. The warship is the fourth vessel under the prestigious Project 17A class of stealth frigates.

Designed by the Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) with extensive support from MSMEs, INS Taragiri reflects India’s growing self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

Equipped with advanced stealth features, the frigate has a significantly reduced radar signature, enhancing its survivability and combat effectiveness in high-threat environments. The vessel boasts over 75% indigenous content, highlighting the success of India’s domestic shipbuilding ecosystem and strong public-private collaboration.

Powered by a Combined Diesel or Gas (CODOG) propulsion system, INS Taragiri integrates cutting-edge technologies, including a modern Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS). Its modular design and technological sophistication make it a versatile multi-role platform capable of undertaking diverse naval missions across varied operational theatres.

With its induction, INS Taragiri is expected to further strengthen the Indian Navy’s blue-water capabilities, reinforcing maritime security and operational readiness.
