PM Modi and Mongolian President jointly unveil statue of Lord Buddha at Gandan Monastery

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mongolian President Khaltmaagiin Battulga on September 20, 2019 jointly unveiled a statue of Lord Buddha at Gandan Monastery in Ulaanbaatar through video-conferencing in New Delhi.
  • During his visit to Mongolia in 2015 PM Modi had offered prayers at the Gandan Tegchenling Monastery and had announced to gift a statue of Lord Buddha to the monastery, underlining the common Buddhist heritage and civilizational links between the two countries and peoples.
  • Mongolian President had arrived in New Delhi on September 19, 2019 on a five-day state visit to India. This was the first State Visit by a Mongolian President in last ten years.
