Iran on May 16, 2021 unveiled the Simorgh supercomputer, which will deliver 1 petaflops of performance, according to state-run news outlet IRNA.
- The Simorgh system, named after a mythical Persian bird, was designed by Tehran’s Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT) at a cost of 1 trillion Iranian rials (~$4.5 million).
- The initial installation of Simorgh spans 42 racks, providing 560 teraflops.
- The supercomputer will offer large-scale data analysis services for a variety of state-run and private scientific research, according to its developers.
