Why in News?
The Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully conducted a drop trial of the indigenously designed Long Range Glide Bomb (LRGB), Khagantak-243, marking a significant step towards enhancing India’s indigenous precision-strike capability.

About Khagantak-243

  • Developer: Nagpur-based start-up JSR Dynamics Pvt. Ltd.
  • Developed in collaboration with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) under the Development-cum-Production Partner (DCPP) model.
  • Warhead: 125-kg Mk-81 general-purpose blast-fragmentation warhead.
  • Design features:
    • Swivel-type mid-body glide wings.
    • Five aft control surfaces.
    • Glide ratio of more than 12:1.
  • Operational range: Approximately 144–180 km.
  • Release conditions: From an altitude of around 12 km at Mach 0.8.
  • First tested from: Su-30MKI at Pokhran.
  • Planned integration: MiG-29K and Mirage-2000.

What is a Glide Bomb?

A glide bomb is an aerial bomb equipped with aerodynamic surfaces that allow it to glide towards a target after release, rather than simply falling vertically.
