King Fahd Causeway

The King Fahd Causeway, a crucial link between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, has been temporarily closed following threats of potential Iranian attacks targeting Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.

Stretching approximately 25 kilometers, the causeway serves as Bahrain’s only direct road connection to the Arabian Peninsula. It holds immense strategic value, particularly as Bahrain hosts the United States Fifth Fleet, a key component of American naval operations in the region.

The shutdown comes amid escalating tensions across West Asia after warnings issued by Donald Trump. Security concerns have intensified, prompting precautionary measures to safeguard critical infrastructure and civilian movement.

The closure is especially significant given the causeway’s past role as a fallback corridor during disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. During periods of maritime uncertainty and restricted airspace, the route enabled the movement of people, essential goods, and limited commercial transport between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, with onward connectivity to other Gulf nations.
